Chaudah Kosi Parikrama in Ayodhya is a religious ritual that involves walking around the ancient city of Ayodhya, which is believed to be the birthplace and kingdom of Lord Ram. The parikrama covers a distance of 14 kos, which is about 42 km, and passes through several sacred places associated with Lord Ram and his family. The parikrama usually starts and ends at the Hanuman Garhi temple, and takes about 10 hours to complete. Some of the places visited during the parikrama are Kanak Bhawan, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, Nageshwar Nath temple, Mani Parvat, Brahma Kund, and Guptar Ghat. The parikrama is held twice a year, once during the Kartik month (October-November) and once during the Chaitra month (March-April). Deepotsav is a spectacular festival that celebrates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. It is organized by the government of Uttar Pradesh every year on the eve of Diwali, the festival of lights. Deepotsav means “festival of lamps” and it involves lighting millions of earthen lamps along the banks of the Saryu river, the temples, the ghats, and the houses in Ayodhya. The event also showcases the rich cultural heritage of Ayodhya and Uttar Pradesh through various performances, exhibitions, and competitions. Deepotsav attracts lakhs of devotees and tourists who come to witness the grandeur and glory of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama.
This year, Deepotsav 2023 will be held from November 10 to 12 and it will be the grandest ever with a target to light 21 lakh earthen lamps. A huge digital screen will display the history of Ayodhya and Uttar Pradesh, and a light and sound show will be started at Ram Ki Pauri. The event will also feature cultural events, fireworks, laser shows, and a procession of Lord Rama’s idols. Deepotsav 2023 will be a historic and memorable event for all who attend it.
